INTRODUCTION This book is a supplemental text for the serious guitar student. The etudes are playable on any type of guitar, with or without a pick. They were written during my eight years as the guitar instructor at The Bishop’s School, in La Jolla, California. Some of the standard guitar methods I have used as a teacher are the venerable Carcassi, the sets by Shearer and Noad, and the works of Jerry Silverman and Laurindo Almeida. I also admire the contributions of Mickey Baker and Joe Diorio, and I acknowledge my debt to many others who ventured into this area before me. Fingerings have intentionally been left out. You may want to mark them in. I suggest using pencil for fingerings, and other implements and colors for other markings. |
